One of my all-time favorite moments in the design process is selecting linens. It is one of the first things we look at when creating a design board. Sometimes, this is what all of the florals and other design elements are created around. We sit down, show you samples of your new BFF, and we take it from there. We work with three of the most sought after linen companies: Nüage, BBJ Linen, and La Tavola.
There are a couple ways a bride without a planner can go about picking linens.
Work with your caterer and choose from their inventory
Find a rental company and choose from their inventory
The stressful thing about those two steps is that you will sometimes not get to pick your linen from your caterer until you sit down with them, which is closer to your wedding day. And at that point, you are stuck with whatever options they can pull from. Also, a rental company may not have the exact size you need because a lot of these companies have what we call "weird sizes." I have had to use 2 of the same linen to cover one table! Talk about out of budget!
If you want to get the pretty linens, but are afraid of cost, here are a couple things we can do:
If you are renting through us, you get to use our discount code.
Only use the pretty (i.e., more expensive) linen on half or a third of your reception tables. If you are doing different centerpieces, put the fancy linen with the less expensive centerpiece and it will make it look more over-the-top.
Use a patterned napkin if you have no choice but to go with a plain linen to bring more style to the table.
